A New Scientific and Cultural Experience in Serbia

Un an de monitorizare a mediului în zona minieră transfrontalieră România–Serbia, noi rezultate în cadrul proiectului ERA-MIN, coordonat de UPT.

One year of environmental monitoring in the Romania–Serbia cross-border mining area: new findings from the ERA-MIN project, coordinated by UPT.În perioada 31 august – 1 septembrie 2026, partenerii proiectului s-au reunit la Belgrad pentru cea de-a cincea sesiune de lucru, dedicată prezentării rezultatelor obținute în urma monitorizării calității mediului.

Research conducted in the area of the Tăușani–Boșneag tailings piles near Moldova Nouă revealed high concentrations of copper and lead in the soil, as well as the ability of microorganisms to adapt and help limit the spread of these metals into the environment. In the case of water from the monitored wells, the concentrations of copper, nickel, and lead were well below the permissible limits for drinking water.

Through the ERA-MIN_RO-SRB project, the Polytechnic University of Timișoara and the Bor Institute of Mining and Metallurgy are contributing to a better understanding of the risks associated with mining activities and to the development of joint solutions for environmental protection and sustainable management in the Romania–Serbia cross-border region.

The project is co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg IPA Romania–Serbia Program.
